Because Pillows Are Easier Than Learning How To Train My Dog

This post is mostly for my friend Vickie because though we are best of friends, we live about 30 miles away from each other and don't get to each other's house that often.

I got to see her new dining room furniture on her blog for the first time so it only seems right to show her my new pillows on my blog.

I've been waiting for a while to find some pretty and decorative pillows for my brown leather couches in my living room.  I love my couches.  But so does my dog.  My big, messy Saint Bernard.  For the past few years that we have owned these wonderful couches they have been Nelli's favorite resting place.

Now, if you are going to have a dog like your couches they should be leather ones because they are easier to clean than cloth.  But those big brown behemoths take some work to clean and polish if you have a dog like my beloved Nelli.

My dream was to wait for a great sale at Kohls and get some really fabulous pillows for cheap.  But since I live at least 90 miles from the nearest Kohls store my chances of getting there on sale day were slim.

Recently I went to visit my son who lives near Wichita.  One of the greatest things about visiting Nathan other than seeing Nathan is that he lives about 5 minutes from a Kohls store.  Which is right next to a Lowes. Wow.   That sounds SO shallow.  But I do live on the edge of the earth for shopping so give me a break, okay?

Anyway.  The week before I made my last minute trip I had received a discount card from Kohls for 30%.  Knowing that I rarely  get to the store I threw it in the trash.  Which gets burned.

So I find myself in the area of my son before he gets off work and take that time to take a look in Kohls for pillows and whatever else looks good.  They just happened to be having one of their super sales with items marked down anywhere from 30%-80% off.  Boy, I wish I hadn't thrown that discount card away. What a coup that would have been!

I found one pillow that I really loved but they only had one.  I wanted two.  I took my chances that another store in the area which is rife (no that is not a typo) with lovely shopping would have another one just like it.

As I walked up to the check out area I felt really good about myself for getting such a good bargain.  Then the   check out girl asked me if I had my discount coupon.  I told her no and why I didn't.  Well, she just gave me one to "scratch and save" right there.  BINGO.  I scratched and got 30%.  She was shocked.  She said, "wow, nobody gets 30."  So I got another 30% off my purchases WHICH I also could use for another 2 days.  So later that night after we ate dinner at Texas Roadhouse we drove across the street (sweet mother of shopping) and sticking out just waiting for me to arrive was the very same pillow that I wanted.

The best part of the whole deal is that now that there are pillows decorating my couches my dog thinks that she can't get on them.

  1. So cute! I think it's funny that your dog won't get up on the couch now. We have to put books on our furniture to keep the dog off--and it still doesn't work! She pushes the books off and gets on the couch when we're gone. Argh!

  2. Well, I guess I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who can't make my dog stop doing something.

Actually, she is a big chicken and is scared of most things so I wish I would have thought of this sooner. Dogs just love couches. Now she is using the one at the end of my bed but that is okay.
