Apple Crisp and Sore Muscles

Today I made some more apple crisp after picking the apples that were left on our tree.  We had hardly any apples this year compared to last year.  And by that I mean that last year we had apples like they have Baptist churches in Texas.  This year we had apples like, well, like Baptist churches here in Little Rome.  Guess only someone who lives in my little area of Kansas would get that but I think anyone could figure out the contrast.

So I decided I would share the recipe that I use on here.  My friend Janine put this recipe in the church cookbook from my "growing up church".  I have altered it a tad and I am not gonna lie.  People say it is the best apple crisp they have ever had when they try it.

I used that big pole apple picking thingy that is made to pick fruit that you can't reach and would have taken a picture of myself except that it would have looked pretty stupid.  Besides, I don't know how to take a picture of myself while using the big pole apple picking thingy.

Okay.   I make enough crisp for a 9 x 13 glass baking dish that has been sprayed with your favorite cooking spray.

Place 8 cups of sliced apples in the dish.  Sprinkle with 1/2 cup of water, 2 tsp of salt and enough cinnamon to your liking.

I like a lot but if you want a measurement try 2 tsp.  I just sprinkle it all over the apples until it looks like this.

Next, take two sticks of butter (yes two sticks--that is the secret to this yummy goodness) which has been softened and with a pastry blender mix it with 2 cups of flour and 2 cups of sugar.

It should be crumbly but well mixed.  Pour flour/sugar mixture over the apples...........

Ta da!  Then bake it in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour.  Of course you should keep your eye on it in case your oven varies from mine.    It should come out looking like

this!  All bubbly and lightly browned.  Of course it is great warm with ice cream or a tall glass of cold milk.  That last comment was for my friend Shelly who got me into blogging and who is a much better cook than I.  But I figured since she likes Paula Deen so much that she would like this recipe with lots of butter in it.

I had a little taste of this stuff after lunch and it was very tasty!  Then I started scrubbing my tile floors.  Now my arms and back are very sore.  So I will medicate myself and go to bed.

  1. Okay, now I have to make an apple crisp! That looks delicious! I'm guessing our tree has, oh, MAYBE a dozen apples on it this year. A good part of last year's amazing crop is still in the freezer or canned as applesauce though.
