It Goes Pretty Far, But Not Forever

Joy to the World , the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the World, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy!

I'm pretty sure that everything under the sun has been written this week about the terrible things that have happened in the world this past week.

There's really nothing that I can write that would add or detract from the conversation at this point.

But I've been thinking about a line from a Christmas song that we have all sung and probably not thought that much about.

In the song "Joy To The World", this verse reminds us that we live in a fallen world.  A cursed world.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

I sang that song for decades before ever thinking about what the line "far as the curse is found" really, truly meant.

That curse covers us all and includes the earth itself.  One day we will get a new earth and the curse will be lifted.  Until then, we must live in a world of evil where only briefly do we get to see what  someday will be fact for those who trust in Jesus, the only One who can truly bring Joy to our cursed world.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.
